Clicking speed is a skill, and like any skill it improves with sensible practice. These nine tips will help you raise your score on our CPS test.
1. Use a proper mouse
A light mouse with responsive switches registers fast clicks more reliably than a laptop trackpad or a stiff office mouse. See does your mouse affect CPS?
2. Fix your grip
Keep your finger resting low over the button so each click needs very little travel. Try palm, claw and fingertip grips and keep the one that scores best.
3. Relax
Tension is the enemy of speed. Drop your shoulder, keep your wrist loose and breathe normally.
4. Learn jitter clicking
Tensing your forearm makes the finger vibrate against the button. It is fast but tiring. See what is jitter clicking? and test it on the jitter click test.
5. Learn butterfly clicking
Alternate two fingers on the same button. It is easier to control and often more comfortable. See what is butterfly clicking?
6. Warm up
Do two or three short runs before you try for a personal best. Your best score usually comes after your hand is warm.
7. Practise short and often
Five minutes a day beats one long session. Short bursts build speed without causing fatigue or strain. Try the exercises in CPS training exercises.
8. Train consistency, not just peak speed
Watch the consistency figure in your result. A steady rhythm is faster over time than a frantic start that fades.
9. Protect your hand
Rest between attempts and stop if anything hurts. No score is worth an injury.
Track your progress
Your personal best and level are stored in your browser, and you can add scores to the leaderboard. Come back every few days and compare.
